These delicious cookies, widespread in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, are a delight that most probably both countries have inherited from the United States.
It is a ubiquitous dessert served at Christmas. You can use several ingredients as a top. In the Dominican Republic, we generally use guava jam, accompanied by dragees or candies of different colors.
It will be easy for you to fall in love with those cookies for the simplicity and delicacy of their flavors and the ease of their preparation. You do not need to be an expert in cooking to prepare them, and you will need very few ingredients.
I challenge you to prepare it with your favorite jams and tell me how it goes.
Ingredients
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
Mix with your kitchen robot the vegetable shortening and butter until softened. Add the sugar and mix for about two minutes at medium speed. Add the egg yolk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
Add the flour and reduce the speed. Mix for one minute, turn off your kitchen robot and finish mixing with your hands until you form a sandy but compact mass.
Make balls of approximately two centimeters and, pressing a little in the center of the balls with your thumb, give them the shape of the Mantecaditos.
Add the jam of your choice in the center of the cookies and bake for 13 minutes.
